Convert EML and MSG to PDF – attachments included, no upload
Mail Archive opens your EML, MSG or winmail.dat file and saves the email as a PDF in one click. Sender, recipients, date and subject sit at the top, and the attachments can go into the PDF unchanged. Everything happens on your computer; nothing is uploaded.
Available on the Mac from version 1.3. The Windows version with these features is coming soon to the Microsoft Store.

Who needs emails as PDF
Records and case files
Confirmations, cancellations, agreements: file them as PDF, print them or add them to a case file.
For your lawyer
Hand over correspondence as evidence, with complete headers and the original attachments.
For your accountant
Invoices that arrived by email, passed on as one PDF together with the attachment.
For yourself
Keep important emails readable, even if you no longer have a mail client later on.
How to convert EML to PDF
Open the file
In Mail Archive click “Open file …” at the bottom left and choose the .eml, .msg or winmail.dat file. Double-clicking or dragging it into the window works too.
Click the PDF icon
Click the PDF icon “Save as PDF” at the top right.
Choose attachments
With “Embed attachments in the PDF” the original files are stored unchanged inside the PDF. Preview or Acrobat lists them under “Attachments”.
Save
Click “Create PDF” and choose where to save it. The file name contains date and subject, e.g. “2026-03-01 Roof repair quote.pdf”.

Opening files is free. “Save as PDF” is part of Pro (€14.99, one-time).
Convert MSG to PDF without Outlook
MSG files come from Outlook, for example via “Save As” or as a forwarded email attachment. Mail Archive reads them itself, so you don’t need Outlook. Getting a PDF works exactly like EML: open the file, click the PDF icon, “Create PDF”.
You can also save a single email from a PST file or an MBOX mailbox this way: open the file, click the email, click the PDF icon.
PDF contents on Mac and Windows
| In the PDF | Mac | Windows |
|---|---|---|
| Subject, From, To, Cc, Date | ✓ | ✓ |
| List of attachments with size | ✓ | ✓ |
| Original attachments embedded (optional) | ✓ | ✓ |
| Email text | ✓ | ✓ |
| Original email layout (HTML), embedded images | ✓ | – (as text) |
| External images and tracking pixels | – | – |
On a Mac the PDF looks like the email in the app. On Windows Mail Archive creates a plain text PDF: all headers and the full text, but no images or formatting.
Convert many emails at once
For law firms, companies and accountants: archived emails can be exported in bulk.
Get the emails into your archive
Connect an account or import files (EML, MBOX, PST).
Select emails
Select the emails in the mailbox view and choose “Export as PDF”.
Pick the format
“One PDF per email” into a folder, or “All in one PDF”, with or without embedded attachments.
Batch PDF export is part of Business (€129.99, one-time). Single emails can be saved as PDF with Pro.
No upload, no cloud
Online EML and MSG converters upload your email to their server, attachments, addresses and content included. With client or tax documents that’s a real concern. Mail Archive creates the PDF on your computer. The email never leaves it, and you don’t need an account with us.
External images aren’t loaded for the PDF either, so no tracking pixel tells the sender you opened the email.
To be fair: other options
- Print to PDF: if you have Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird, open the email there and use “Print › Save as PDF” (Mac) or “Microsoft Print to PDF” (Windows). Attachments are not included.
- Online converters: quick and nothing to install, but the file gets uploaded.
Mail Archive fits when you don’t have a suitable mail client (MSG on a Mac, for example), when the attachments should go into the PDF, or when the email must not leave your computer.
Note: Mail Archive creates regular PDF files, not PDF/A. If a portal explicitly requires PDF/A, you’ll need to convert the file for that.
Email to PDF questions
How do I convert an EML file to PDF?
Open the EML file in Mail Archive, click the PDF icon “Save as PDF” at the top, choose “Create PDF” and save. It works on Mac and Windows.
Can I convert MSG files to PDF too?
Yes, exactly like EML, and without Outlook. winmail.dat files and single emails from PST or MBOX files can be saved as PDF the same way.
Are attachments included in the PDF?
Yes, if you leave “Embed attachments in the PDF” switched on. The original files are then stored unchanged inside the PDF, and the PDF text also lists every attachment.
How much does it cost?
Opening files is free. Saving single emails as PDF is part of Pro (€14.99); many emails at once is part of Business (€129.99). Both are one-time purchases.
Does the PDF look the same on Windows and Mac?
No. On a Mac the PDF keeps the email’s layout and images. On Windows you get a text PDF with all headers and the full text, but without images or formatting.
Is my email uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is created on your computer. Mail Archive doesn’t send the email or the PDF anywhere.
