About Mail Archive: built to solve the developer's own problem
Mail Archive archives email locally on Mac and Windows. The app was built by Jörg Balters, owner of TechPirat in Düsseldorf, Germany, because he found no solution for his own mailbox that needed no server, subscription or foreign cloud.
Jörg Balters has run a PC repair and IT support service for small businesses and private customers for many years. The trigger was his own mailbox: thousands of invoices, quotes and contracts spread across Gmail and other providers, plus legal retention duties. The archiving products available were built for corporations, needed a server or a subscription, or pushed everything into someone else's cloud.
So he built an app that does the opposite: it pulls emails onto your own computer, makes them searchable, and is paid for once. First for the Mac, and since 2026 for Windows as well.
Mail Archive is a one-person product. Support requests go straight to the developer, and so do feature requests.

What we stick to
Local first
The archive lives with you. There is no Mail Archive server your messages could end up on.
No account, no tracking in the app
The app needs no login with us. It connects to your mail server and to nothing else.
Pay once
Software you buy, not rent.
Try it with your own mailbox
Free, no account with us, no time limit. One account and 20 emails are enough to see whether it fits.
